Prices of wheat and barley in 1449. In the year 1449, Rhodes was suffering from wheat disease. Rhodians bought from Cyprus wheat for eight whites for a modion, and barley for four. (5 whites = 1 byzantine and 4 byzantines = 20 whites). (Zannettou, p. 879)
Note: Modion was a measure of varying capacity (as per region) which was used in Greece for grain and various fruits.
