Processing method

The traditional way of making rose distillate requires the use of the distiller, which consists of two basic parts, the boiler and the barrel, which is filled with water. The production of the rose distillate, as described by earlier producers, follows this process:

- The roses are placed in a large pot, into which water is poured. The traditional calculation says that for every one oka of roses, two and a half oka of water is added.

- In the meantime, the water is heated and the water vapour created is directed through a copper pipe to the water barrel.

- When the water vapour is liquefied, it is converted into a rose distillate (Agros Community Council, 'Local Products').

Supplementary Information

In Agros village, beautiful and fragrant roses thrive, with which the locals produce the well-known to all of us Agros rose distillate. The roses are mainly from Rosa Damascena, a rose variety which owes its widespread existence to a famous personality of Agros, Nearchos Clerides. The latter spread this particular type of rose plant in the village. Its roses are distinguished for their special aroma and are the most suitable for the production of rose distillate. A few years later, Agros, on the initiative of Nearchos Clerides, acquired the first distiller, an essential tool for the production of rose distillate (Community Council of Agros, 'Local Products').
