Animal feed: food for camels: straw of broad beans, pomegranate and chickpeas mixed with cottonseed and rarely straw. The male camel was given special care: plenty of pomegranate to have more energy in the period of oestrus. In addition, they were taken to graze on wild grass, especially in Deneia where they had wild artichokes and operous (a type of wild grass which has thorns at the top of the flower).
Food for sheep: in August when the sheep were in oestrus, they would give special treatment to the ram (tziloni) with free grazing and grooming in the evening, Appios V. G. (1999) 25.
