A type of large plum.
Name - Origin
It is a type of large plum about the size of an ox's eye (Yangoullis 2009, entry αμματόβουδον,το, 50).
It is called 'the coarse plum fruit, comparable to the eye of an ox' (Great Encyclopaedia of Cyprus, vol. 2, entry αμματόβουδον,το, 32).
George Loukas notes that it is a species of large plums similar in size to the eye of the ox, hence the name (Kypri 1979 [2002²], entry αμματόβουδον,το, 28).
