A variety of pears that ripen in August.
Name - Origin
It is a variety of pears (ahládia, apidia) that ripen in August (Great Encyclopedia of Cyprus, vol. 2, entry αουστάπκια,τα, 235).
ETYM. < άουστος [Aoustos = August] + άπιον [apion = the pear] (Yiangoullis 2009, entry αουστόπκια - αουστάπκια,τα, 66)
As George Loukas notes in his Glossary, the name comes from the fact that the particular fruit ripens in August (Kypri 1979 [2002²], entry αουστάπκια,τα, 54).
