Kountourkaridin bread, and probably the kountoura that it contained, had intoxicating properties. It brought dizziness, constant vomiting and dullness of the body. These symptoms lasted for half a day or a whole day in those who were not accustomed to it. (Pharmakidou XP, 2003, p.313).
