Karapotosoglou connects the etymology of the word with the Arabic raṣî'a (Yangoullis 2014, entry ρέσιν,το, 460) Eugenia Petrou-Poeitou gives the following possible terminologies: a) the Turkish word resim, meaning feast, b) the Greek σιτηρέσιο (sitiressio), c) ραίω, ραίσειν, meaning to beat, to break d) αρέσκω (to like) and e) ρεσίζομαι (resizomai), meaning appetising (Petrou-Poeitou 2013, entry Ρέσι, 125).
