Name - Origin
A sweet and sour pomegranate (Kypri 1983 [2003²], entry vovantikon, 138).
In other areas of Cyprus, mainly in Marathasa, it was called avantikon. It is a compound word from ρόδι (ródi=pomegranate) and vantikon. The first synthetic becomes rovo - and the arctic syllable ro is cut off from the word rovovantiko and what remains is the word vovantiko (Kypri 1983 [2003²], entry βοβάντικον,το, 138).
