General Information for the Project

The Mediterranean Diet has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity due to its unique set of values and characteristics. Rooted in simplicity, sharing, and seasonality, it also offers solutions to some of the most pressing global challenges today, such as biodiversity loss, food waste, and climate change.

Through a series of activities—including photographic exhibitions, educational programs, workshops, screenings, and events—FoodPrint focused on the value of the Mediterranean Diet and how it connects to our daily lives. The project specifically aimed to foster knowledge about local products, nutrition that promotes well-being, and sustainable food production that respects the environment.

Participants had the opportunity to explore traditional recipes, learn about the history and values embedded in the Mediterranean Diet, and gain insight into the contemporary challenges and the solutions this diet offers for the future.

The Role of the Museum of Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum

The Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum actively participated in the European project FoodPrint, which explored the relevance of the Mediterranean Diet in contemporary life. The project's aim was to highlight the benefits of this traditional diet, not only for health but also for sustainability and cultural heritage.

With the support of the project, the Museum, in collaboration with the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, developed the digital educational program “Something Ancient is Cooking”, to raise awareness of the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet and its importance in our culture.
