A type of soup with water and pieces of bread, a similar preparation to psoumosouppa
They would cut bread into small pieces, which they would fry in olive oil. Then, they would boil them in epsima-grape syrup or carob syrup (Pharmakidou, 2003 p. 347). Mrs. Marina Kattou, from Vouni Limassol, says that they would eat them without boiling them in honey: ‘we would use freshly made bread and fry it in olive oil. If the bread was hard, we would first dip it in water. We would remove the bread pieces from the oil and eat them’.
Functional and symbolic role
They were consumed for breakfast as a type of soup (Pharmakidou, 2003 p. 347)
