P. G. Gennadios, in his 1895-1896 report ‘On Agriculture in Cyprus’ states: "The main products of Cyprus are those of viticulture, cereals, carobs and those of sericulture. These four products, despite all the depreciation they have suffered in recent years, still account for three quarters of the island's entire export trade...'. Cotton and flax, are added to these, the yarn of which was used in the textile industry and in handicrafts in general (Ionas 2001, 22).
