Dessert of ancient Cyprus, the name of which is preserved in written sources of the Hellenistic and Roman period. It is interpreted as a milk pie.

Functional and symbolic role
It is prepared as a dessert. The reference, which is made by Klearchos Soleas, is nominal and, therefore, we do not know more about the importance of this food in the diet of the ancient Cypriots (see Supplementary Information).

"Amis" is recorded by Klearchos Soleas (4th - 3rd century BC) in his work «Περί γρίφων» (on riddles), among other names of desserts. The excerpt is recorded by Athenaeus (2nd-3rd century AD) in his work 'Dipnosophistae' (14.649a) (TEXT.1, 1a).
Athenaeus describes the 'amis' as a kind of milk pie (16.644f) (TEXT 2).
