Greek name - description

Housewives bake Easter bread with sesame seeds and Easter buns which contain whole cooked eggs in every design imaginable during the Easter festivities. On the feast of St Lazarus, we see all these shapes, i.e. dolls, birds, crabs, turtles and snakes, all made of dough Ohnefalsch-Richter (1900, p.78).

Festive Occasions

Flaounes are similar to the German cheese cake (käsekuchen) which are baked in villages only during Easter, using a sweet butter dough and an egg and cheese filling. These Easter delicacies are consumed for a number of weeks and taste very good when they are carefully baked and are heated over a wood fire (Ohnefalsch-Richter, 1900, p.78)
